At the center of the mesmerizing rolling fields, resided a shepherd boy. His being was unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His main role was essentially to tend to his herd of sheep.

Their soft bleating and the rustling of the gales through the lone tree on the peak were his only associates. Day in day, guarding his responsibilities imbued in him a sense of tranquil contentment.

However, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. In one such instance because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plot.

Tales of wolves hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy opted here to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.

One day he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw nothing threatening.

The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This prank laughed for a couple of more days. Yet, one noon, a real wolf did charge at the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the results of dishonesty.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is difficult to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
